Dutch Open 2015

DSC_1292On the 17th January 17 competitors, 3 umpires, 4 coaches and lots of parents from Vision TKD set off on a coach for the long drive to the Netherlands for the Dutch Open. We were also joined by three competitors and a coach from other ITF England federations. After a long but fun and hassle free drive the team checked into the hotel before making their way to the registration and the arena. All the team successfully weighed in and registered. Then it was time to eat. Fortunately a restaurant was able to accommodate our large team of 43.

The following morning we had an early start to make sure that the referees and coaches were at the relevant meetings before the competition started. The tournament was split into two halls; colour belts were in one hall and black belts were in another. Things got off to a slow start as there were a few problems with the electronic scoring system but once things got moving the black belts picked up some patterns medals. Josh Wadey opened the VTA account with a bronze in senior male 1st degree patterns. Reuben Williams, from ETA but helping with the Vision team then followed that up with a bronze in senior male 3rd degree patterns. Not to be outdone, Eoin Hoskins got the first medal for the colour belts with a bronze in junior blue belt patterns. Tom Davies then just missed out on a gold in the final of the junior male 1st degree patterns, settling for silver. Carly Wilson, from Total TKD but helping the Vision team got silver in the senior female 4th degree patterns.

It seemed to take forever for some good results to come but eventually Thicome Biron-Monnier had some brilliant fights and only just lost in the final of the junior red belt sparring, getting silver in the end. Eoin then added to his medal with a silver in sparring before Joe Palmer had the fight of his life getting the bronze medal in the junior boys blue belt division.

With the colour belts wrapped up it was back to the black belts and Josh added another medal to his collection with a silver in the senior male micro weight division. And the last medal of the day came from Maxim Boyce-Davis, getting a silver in the junior male hyper weights.

DSC_1299 DSC_1302Although not everyone won a medal all the competitors performed with determination and courage and should be proud of their efforts.

Many thanks to the referees Mr Bourne Mr R Norris and Mr M Norris, to Master Hewlett for providing medical assistance to the team and the coaches Mr Lear, Mr Adams, Mr Thompson, Mr Kong and Mr Capaja from ETA. And a big thanks to the parents for all their support.

And special thanks to the organiser master Willy van de Mortel for inviting us.
